Termite infestation can occur without you even noticing. The infestation can begin the moment the termites enter your home.

Termites can enter your home through any vulnerable opening. Many people aren’t even aware of the openings termites use to get inside. So how do you know whether you will likely have an infestation?

Believe it or not, there are several signs of a termite infestation that you can spot. Keep reading to discover the major tell-tale signs of an infestation.

    Indications of a Termite Infestation

Signs of a termite infestation can be difficult to detect. However, homeowners may notice signs like mud tubes, small holes in the wooden structures, and piles of sawdust. Also, bubbling paint and soft spots in drywall.

Being vigilant for these signs is key to catching a termite infestation before it becomes a bigger problem.

    1. Mud Tubes

One of the earliest signs of an infestation is seeing mud tubes built by the termites. These tubes range in size and may appear on walls, floors, or other areas where the termites have access. The mud tubes may be near foundation walls, especially if the structure has wooden components or is surrounded by moist soil.

Read here for everything you need to know about termite prevention, infestation, and the dangers they pose to your home.

    2. Small Holes in the Wooden Structures

These small holes are usually located near the bottom of the wood, the floor, or the wall’s base. The holes are usually the size of a pencil or even as small as a staple. It’s important to contact a pest control professional to inspect the affected structure, as this is the best way to determine if termites are the problem.

    3. Piles of Sawdust

Subterranean termites create tunnels in wood, which cause wood to become weak and eventually crumble. This can create piles of wood-colored sawdust that become more visible over time. If you notice piles of this sawdust around windows, walls, door jams, or other wood-infested areas, it may signify a termite problem.

    4. Bubbling Paint

This occurs when termites burrow through the walls of a home and feed on the wood behind the paint. As the termites consume the wood, the paint begins to bubble and crack. In extreme cases, it may appear to be raised from the wall or discolored.

    5. Soft Spots in Drywall

Soft spots in drywall indicate that termites have eaten through the drywall, leaving behind a softened and weakened layer. If you notice this sign, pay close attention to additional signs, such as popping sounds and the presence of discarded wings. If you find soft spots in the drywall, contact a pest control service to inspect further.

    Identifying Visual Warning Signs

Termite infestation can be difficult to detect. Vigilance and knowledge of the warning signs can help homeowners take measures to protect their homes.

If you notice any of the signs discussed, contact a pest professional for inspection and extermination services as soon as possible. Don’t wait. Take action today!
